FSDA raid on restaurant and snacks factory

AGRA: A team of Food Safety and Drug Administration(FSDA) conducted raids at a restaurant on Fatehabad road and snacks factory in Nunihai locality on Thursday. The team destroyed substandard food products after collecting samples for lab testing. According to the officers, notice will be issued to both the firms for non compliance on food safety norms. Further action will be taken on basis of the lab report.

The team first conducted raid on Kanha Agro Food private limited factory in Nunihai locality under Etmadullah police station. Here excessive use of colours was found in Namkeen and poor quality of carom seed and taste maker. The team destroyed substandard namkeen on suspicion of adulteration and collected three samples of ingredients.
Assistant Commissioner (food safety) Vinit Kumar said "Use of excessive edible colors and non permissible coloring agents is violation of food safety norms. Colors up to 100 parts per million, a way of expressing much diluted concentrations of substances, are allowed in food items, beyond which they are harmful to humans.

At a popular restaurant in Fatehabad road, the FSDA officials found stale Biryani. An officer said that it was in "no way meant for human consumption". Sweat meat Mawa bite, gravy and buns used for burgers were also found to be unfit for consumption. The team destroyed all substandard food items and collected samples for lab testing.

Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, FSDA has intensified random raids to check adulteration and not to allow consumption of substandard sweets and other food products which may lead consumers in trouble on festival.

The officer said "Adulteration causes serious risk to health. Presence of harmful starch, urea-mixed milk, caustic soda, artificial sweetening chemicals, non-approved colored sweets and unhygienic cooking conditions lead to acute gastritis, serious diarrhoea, dysentery, dehydration and kidney inflammation among others".
